Essential Question: What contributions are with us today?

  1. Using the Contribution List (pdf), students will fill in a Contribution Web (pdf). Discuss some of the contributions that students use in their lives.
    • Sports
    • Location names
    • Food / survival
    • Medicine
    • Plants / seeds
    • Storage
    • Arts
    • Oral stories / beliefs
      • Activate background knowledge of students by sharing in a whole group situation (read-aloud) to the class. Find a book that is related to any of the topics listed. Some materials are available from San Juan School District

Creation story from a Utah Tribe - Coyote Steals Fire -- A Shoshone Tale Retold and Illustrated by The Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. Utah State University Press ISBN-10:0-87421-618-4

Moccasin Story Five Stories adapted from Five Utah Tribes of Utah (CD available Fall 2006)

  2. Research the web, using a search engine such as Google.com or Dibdabdoo.com to create an oral presentation or PowerPoint presentation on a contribution of the student's choice. Many Native American games are fun for students to participate in. A group could learn how to play the stick game and teach the class how to play it. (See resources below.)
