Summary:
This lesson is the third of six teaching Desktop Publishing skills using Quark XPress software. Other DTP software may be substituted. In this lesson, the students will create a certificate of completion with borders, text, check boxes, and vector-based medallion.

Main Curriculum Tie:
Digital Print DesignStandard 4
Students will be able to understand and demonstrate the use of typography.

Materials:
Student instruction sheet (CertifcateStudent.doc or CertifStudent.pdf) and example (CertifExample.pdf).

Attachments

Background For Teachers:
Appropriate computer system and Quark XPress or other desktop publishing software.

Student Prior Knowledge:
Successful completion of Quark XPress projects 1 and 2 (quotation and business card).

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to: (1) Create a document with landscape layout; (2) Create stacked shapes to create an appropriate certificate border; (3) Choose a color scheme and create new colors; and (4) Design a vector-based mediallion using the starburst and pen tools.
