    Materials

  • A PowerPoint projector.
  • VCR to show a movie on immigration to America.(I like "Journey to America".)
  • CD player to play music by Neil Diamond, "Coming to America".


    Background for Teachers

  • Knowledge of the history of the American family and the affects of immigration.
  • Using the correct words and terms of African American, Latin American, Asian American, and Native American or indiginous people.


    Student Prior Knowledge

    It is best to have read the chapter and to have a knowledge of American History.


    Intended Learning Outcomes

    Students will gain an appreciation for the sacrifices of their ancestors who came to America. Students will gain insights into the many fine qualities of minority families.


    Instructional Procedures

    Attachments

    Follow the PowerPoint presentations and activities included. Students can break into groups and write the pros and cons of dual-income families and share their findings. A guest speaker might be good, instead of the movie, to talk about immigrating to America. Print all lesson plans and handouts from the FHS 2400 CD.


    Assessment Plan

    Students will have completed the reading tests before coming to class. A final Exam will be given on the chapter.
