Summary

The Kids use GPS units to find clues that are outside your school. Once they have all the clues that have to piece together and figure out what the clues are teaching them and what they are about

Materials

You will need small containers to hold your objects, GPS Units, and then ten objects: School Bus, Barbarie in 60s clothes, bomb shelter model, Berlin Wall model, Gas Mask, Remember the Titans (picutre), The Majestic or Front (picture), KKK symbol, Radioactive, and Lunch Counter Model

Background for Teachers

The teacher needs to know how to operate a GPS unit

Student Prior Knowledge

One of the days in the schedule for this lesson plan is to teach the students how to use the GPS and to have them go around and do something basic.

Intended Learning Outcomes

You are helping them use their background knowledge to figure out what is going and what the clues are talking about, you are also teaching them technology skills, and you are having them make predictions and hypothesis and seeing if they are correct

Instructional Procedures

1. You need to find and set waypoints for the students to follow. 2. Set up your containers with objects. 3. Create a worksheet for the kids to write down what they find and what they think it means (since all objects are symbolic) 4. Set them lose and have a time frame/ 5. In class discuss what they found and their theories 6. Give them a more concrete idea of what it means and continually refer back to it throughout your unit.

Assessment Plan

Complete the worksheet and then also have them do a verbal recognition.
