FACS: Sewing Projects (Textiles)

Summary:
This lesson includes patterns for various sewing projects for beginning students.

Main Curriculum Tie:
Career and Technical Education Introduction
Standard 6 Objective 3

Demonstrate basic skills related to nutrition, food preparation, and clothing and textiles.

Career Connections:

  • Tailor
  • Sewing machine operator
  • FACS teacher

Materials:
Supplies for various projects. You will also need to construct each project you wish to have the students make.

Background For Teachers:
Assess the sewing ability of the class and select an appropriate project or projects. There are many projects listed, choose the number that best fits the time available.

Student Prior Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of textiles. How to thread the sewing machine.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will complete sewing projects.

Instructional Procedures:
Have students complete one (or more) of the following projects, according to the sewing abilities they have developed.
