Comp Tech - Ethics Presentation

Time Frame:
3 class periods that run 70 minutes each.

Students use a storyboard (from among eight possibilities) which represents an ethical dilemma related to the use of computers to create a PowerPoint presentation. After completion, students view and rate each other's presentations which are set to loop continuously.

Main Curriculum Tie:
Computer Technology IStandard 5
(Course Integration throughout General Education Classes) Students will use their document processing, spreadsheet, and/or electronic presentation skills to complete a cross curricular project during the semester (or trimester, etc.,) in which they are enrolled in the Computer Technology course (NETS 2: a, b, c, d).

Instructional Procedures:
I have chosen to provide skeleton storyboards as I teach PowerPoint as opposed to asking for completely original work. This route helps students delve further into ethics, rules, and laws, and provides support in grammar/spelling to English Language Learners and others. Even so, it is essential to remind, prod, and demand that students use the spell check tool and peer proofreading since mistakes will be on display!

  1. Watch closely as the teacher demonstrates how to create a well-designed PowerPoint presentation using a variety of features and effects. (I use one the available storyboards on ethics.)
  2. Review the assignment sheet.
  3. Review detailed expectations on the grading rubric.
  4. Use the storyboard of your choice to create your presentation.
  5. Rehearse timings and set up your show to loop continuously.
  6. Play the show for the class, and walk around to evaluate shows that were created by others by filling out the Slide Show Viewer assignment sheet.
  7. If teacher did not get a chance to grade your presentation, send it to her as an attachment to email
