Background for Teachers

Knowledge of Fabric Construction (woven, knit, and non-woven)

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will identify basic weaves (plain, twill and satin), define knits, and identify non-woven fabrics.

Instructional Procedures

Hand out the worksheet on Fabric Construction. Hand out samples of each type of fabric. Students will identify and staple the samples onto the spaces provided. The teacher can pass out more examples as needed.

Talk about the three types of weaves. Hand out the weaving assignment, and yarn. (I have cardboard for each student with notches in it.) Students will weave samples of each type, and make a page for their portfolio.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

Have students work with a partner.

Assessment Plan

Portfolio Page of weave samples.
