Summary

This is a review lesson about the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates.

Materials

Use SB Lesson with Sound System

Background for Teachers

As 4th graders, this should be a review lesson on the definition of Vertebrates vs. Invertebrates. Can students classify animals into the correct group?

Student Prior Knowledge

Past grade level curriculum should have covered the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates. If not, this is a good review lesson for students to correctly classify animals.

Instructional Procedures

The first SB page clarifies what the "IN" means (language skills- prefixes) and has two different videos to show sharing what vertebrates are compared to invertebrates and how scientists classify animals into these two groups. The second page is a classifying of 14 different animals.

Strategies for Diverse Learners

Because of the oral, audio, and kinesthetic nature of the lesson as well as the interactive nature of the SB, this is a lesson that will be for all learners.

Extensions

This could also be used as a review lesson for Science CRTs.

Assessment Plan

Assessment is automatic with page 2 when students will try to classify 14 animals. If the wrong group is chosen, the program will spit the animal back out of the vortex for the student to try again.
