Students will understand how to use endings to make regular plural nouns in English. They will apply this knowledge to their writing.
Students will erase to reveal the answers on the SmartBoard.
Teachers will have a knowledge of regular plural nouns in English. They will have a knowledge of the inflected endings "s" and "es".
Students will know that when they are speaking, reading and writing they need to be able to communicate 1, or more than 1. They will also understand some irregular plurals in English.
The student will be able to add inflected endings of "s" and "es" to indicate quantity. They will understand that text connotes meaning and the conventions of print when writing.
Review the irregular plurals that we have already discussed. Discuss how most words follow a simple rule of adding 1 or 2 letters to indicate quantity. Writers need to be able to use these endings. Use SmartBoard lesson. Have students write in their journals about objects for which there is 1 or more than 1.
Use pictures to indicate how many objects we are discussing. Define the words "singular" and "plural". Sort as a whole group. Then review in small group.
When writing in their journals, students may write as many sentences as they would like about multiple objects around them.
Anecdotal assessment and observation as the teacher circles the room when students are writing singular and plural sentences in their journals.
