Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will learn communication skills that they can use in their lives


Instructional Procedures

Websites

Teacher will introduce the unit with Non Effective Communication video clip. Students will use the "Skills You Need" website to explore the different types of effective communication in groups and then teach/report back to the class. We will view the video on Raymond takes a class on communication to stimulated discussion on how difficult it is to teach the skills. The teacher will then reinforce the good communication skills using a PowerPoint or Prezi. The students will view the "Raymond uses communication skills" video to see how the skills can work. This will also be used as an introduction to the assignment they need to do.


Assessment Plan

The students will determine one person that they have difficulty communicating with and use at least two of the positive communication skills in a discussion with that person. The student will then write up what two skills they used and the results. They will also tell what they learned anything from this experience.
