Using drag and drop code block you can create a variety of projects. Projects include: 3D bracelet, Photo Accesorizer, Avatar Creation, Say it with a GIF, Beats - editing a sound track, and more to come. There are also several videos that can be watched. Students will how code can be used to create a variety of objects and artifacts. They will also learn about careers that coding can lead to.
1. Watch the Things You Love Are Made with Code. 2. Ask what can you make? 3. Do the Make a 3D Bracelet project. 4. Save and/or print the bracelet. 5. Introduce the students to the videos that show coding to develop a variety of projects. (This could be done in small group with each group watching a different video and sharing with them then sharing with the whole class. 6. Have the students watch the other videos at home and try the other projects at home. Have them share what they did in class the next day. 7. Talk about what careers coding could lead to. What were some of the careers that were shown in the videos that we wouldn't think as programming careers?
Small groups to watch videos and discuss the videos. Paired programming for the projects.
Go to Code.org and try some of the activities there. Go to http://scratch.mit.edu and try some new projects with Scratch.
An artifact or finished project from projects would be an evidence of learning. Discussion of coding careers would show they know careers that they could pursue.
