Student Prior Knowledge

None.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will how code can be used to create a variety of objects and artifacts. They will also learn about careers that coding can lead to.

Instructional Procedures

1. Watch the Things You Love Are Made with Code. 2. Ask what can you make? 3. Do the Make a 3D Bracelet project. 4. Save and/or print the bracelet. 5. Introduce the students to the videos that show coding to develop a variety of projects. (This could be done in small group with each group watching a different video and sharing with them then sharing with the whole class. 6. Have the students watch the other videos at home and try the other projects at home. Have them share what they did in class the next day. 7. Talk about what careers coding could lead to. What were some of the careers that were shown in the videos that we wouldn't think as programming careers?

Strategies for Diverse Learners

Small groups to watch videos and discuss the videos. Paired programming for the projects.

Extensions

Go to Code.org and try some of the activities there. Go to http://scratch.mit.edu and try some new projects with Scratch.

Assessment Plan

An artifact or finished project from projects would be an evidence of learning. Discussion of coding careers would show they know careers that they could pursue.
