This is a simple Dewey Decimal matching lesson. It helps teach students how the library is organized using the Dewey Decimal system.

Materials

  • SMART Board
  • Computer
  • LCD projector
  • Simple Dewey Decimal Chart

Background for Teachers

  • The teacher should explain that the library is organized using the Dewey Decimal system. That is where all the non-fiction books are located. Each section should be defined and explained so the students have some idea of what books go where.

Student Prior Knowledge

  • The students should have had prior training on what the Dewey Decimal system is and how it is used in the library.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • The students will be able to locate specific texts within specific Dewey Decimal locations.

Instructional Procedures

  • Teachers will go over how the library is organized. Teachers will go over what types of text will be in each division of the Dewey Decimal system. Teachers will then use the SMART Board lesson to test what the students have learned.
