Student Prior Knowledge

The only prior knowledge required of the students is what a plant is. Examples can be brought into the classroom.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to names the parts of the plant. Students will be able name the necessary elements for plants to grow.

Instructional Procedures

  • Read aloud "From Seed to Plant" by Gail Gibbons. Talk about the plant parts and what plants need during the story.
  • Show the infographic to summarize what plants need.
  • Go outside and try to locate all the plant parts. Pick them and return to class.
    • Return to class and put together the plant from the different parts your collected.
    • Keep the infographic displayed for future plant lessons.

    Strategies for Diverse Learners

This lesson is great for ELL's because of its hands on aspect. Gifted students should write a paragraph describing the parts of the plant and the needs of a plant.

    Assessment Plan

The teacher will walk around the classroom and see if students were able to find all parts of the plant and put them together. If they could not find all of them, an appropriate explanation is sufficient as to why they couldn't.
