Instructional Procedures

  1. Use the words provided on the next page and cut them out and place in a hat or bucket.
  2. Ask students to draw one or two out and create "word art" from them.
  3. Word art consists of writing the word in a way that the meaning is incorporated.
  4. Students can make the word into a picture or add other elements to create meaning.
  5. Allow time for students to share their work. They can stand and show what they made and describe how it shows meaning. They can work in small groups to share their work or you can put them on the board or a wall and see how different students worked with the same word.
