Materials

  • interactive white board
  • projector

  • Background for Teachers

Teachers must know capitalization rules. They must know how to use a interactive white board (dragging items to specified spots, project computer screen).

    Student Prior Knowledge

Students must have some background knowledge on the rules of capitalization. They must understand the difference between proper nouns and common nouns.

    Intended Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to accurately capitalize proper nouns, titles, pronoun "I", holidays, months, days of the week, and ethnicity.

    Instructional Procedures

    • Discuss the rules of capitalization.
    • Open the smartboard assignment notebook.
    • Call on different students to verbally edit the tiles. Students could write the words that need to be capitalized on a piece of paper or white board. Have students click on the tile to check their answer. Have different students check answers for each tile.
    • On the vortex notebook, students will be chosen randomly to come to the board to drag a word/phrase to the correct vortex. If it is correct, the word will disappear in the vortex, if not, it will be spit out.

    • Assessment Plan

Students will be assessed by their correct responses. Teacher will be able to determine which students need more direct instruction on capitalization.
