Summary

Students will create an infographic using tuxpaint. the infographic will show a basic plant cycle.

Materials

Computer with tuxpaint installed

Background for Teachers

Teachers will have taught the simple plant cycle to the students for their science curriculum. One needs to be able to describe the following stages of the plant cycle; seed, germination or seedling, mature plant, flowers on the plant, fruit on the plant. The teacher needs to be familiar with tuxpaint which is a free downloadable program

Student Prior Knowledge

Students will be familiar with the stages of the plant cycle.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to show their knowledge of the plant cycle upon completion of their infographic.

Instructional Procedures

The teacher sill create their own infographic using tuxpaint. The teacher will need to become familiar with tuxpaint and then teach the children. Introduce the students to tuxpaint if they are not familiar with it. When introducing tuxpaint the teacher will need to show the students step by step how to "draw" their phases of the plant cycle. If the students have used tuxpaint before skip this step. The teacher and the students will need to know how to use the line tool, the color fill tool (magic), the text tool, how to change colors, and where to find stamps. Have students begin creating their infographic as you have shown them. Upon finishing have the students save and print their infographic.

Extensions

If the teacher does not have a color printer have the students line draw each phase and print - then have the students color their printed black and white drawing.
