Summary

Students will pick a substance and design a power point presentation or design a brochure to illustrate the properties of their substance.


Materials

  • Computer lab or library
  • computer discs or other storage.
  • If computers are not being used, poster board or construction paper may be provided for presentation purposes.


Background for Teachers

If library research is used, ask your school librarian to gather appropriate materials.


Student Prior Knowledge

  • Students will need instruction with power point or brochure creation.
  • Students should know that physical and chemical properties describe the nature of a substance.


Instructional Procedures

Attachments

  1. Decide on a way for students to choose their substances. Do not allow any two students to choose the same one.
  2. Explain to students that they will be researching their substances' chemical and physical properties and displaying their work as a power point or brochure. You may wish to assign a specific number of properties.
  3. Go over the rubric attached to ensure students know what is expected of them.
  4. Have students present their work in class and grade it with the rubric attached.
