Summary

Students will read about photosynthesis and respiration in their textbooks and complete a flow chart of each process. Students will answer basic questions about each process and explain the importance of each.

Background for Teachers

This assignment can be used to introduce photosynthesis and respiration or as a reinforcement of material.


Instructional Procedures

  1. Have students read the sections in their textbook about photosynthesis and respiration. Ask them to write down the steps that occur in each process.
  2. Discuss what a flow chart is and show them the examples. Each chart should contain at least 3 steps.
  3. Discuss the importance of the two processes.
  4. Have students use their notes to create an illustrated flow chart.


Assessment Plan

Scoring Guide:
1. Students create a flow chart with at least 3 illustrated steps…..4
2. Students describe the steps in words and pictures………..4
3. The chart is accurate and carefully done……………………4
