Student Prior Knowledge

It is helpful if students have been exposed to reading lines and spaces before, but it is also taught assuming that the material is new for the student.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will learn a strategy for identifying the pitch for music notes based on the line or space where the note is written on.


Instructional Procedures

Students watch Ted Ed video as an overview Students sings the Treble Clef song, from Music K-8 song "Every Good Boy Does Fine" Watch the Video that goes with it. Students sing the Music K-8 song FACE Song, watch the video that goes with it. Videos are embedded on this site http://mrdaviesmusicclass.weebly.com/how-to-read-music.html Students are introduced to the musictheory.net interactive practice tool. Class uses the web tool from musictheory.net site.


Strategies for Diverse Learners

Additional instructions were given to show students how to access the practice program online. Instructions were given about how to use the settings and the the class was given a demonstration. Videos and songs meet the needs of different learning styles.


Assessment Plan

Student completes the note naming test and the score is recorded in an excel file. Scores are kept to help track progress and provide extra instruction to those with lower scores.
