Summary
In this assignment students will learn to be able to "read" the record of Earth history in rock diagrams. Students will also find reasons why, sometimes, older layers are found above younger layers and be able to identify the cause of such changes.
Materials
Instructional Procedures
- Remind the students: We have learned that all sedimentary rock layers will deposit in flat horizontal layers. We also learned that older rocks are found below younger rock. We learned that melted rock can force its way up through these layers causing an igneous intrusion (when the rock cools it's considered igneous rock).
- Hand out the student worksheets (attached) and allow students to complete the project.
