Materials

Student Prior Knowledge

None needed. Could be used as an introductory activity or as a review activity.

Instructional Procedures

  1. Hand out student sheet.
  2. Go over procedures and explain expectations for the drawing. (If using as a final or review project, you may want to have a rubric or explain quality expectations.)
  3. Give students time to work
  4. Good follow-up would be to have students take turns drawing different parts of the nitrogen cycle on the board or an overhead. Help add in information where necessary, and have students add to their drawing. You can use the illustration provided as a guide and have students compare and make adjustments to their drawing.

Extensions

Assign students to make some sort of 3D display of the nitrogen cycle like a diorama or mobile. Students could write a story or narrative to go along with the display. You could give students one day for planning and preparation, one day for building and one day for presenting.
