Mathematics Grade 5
Strand: NUMBER AND OPERATIONS IN BASE TEN (5.NBT) Standard 5.NBT.7
1 class periods of 60 minutes each
Pairs
Students will apply their understanding of computation of decimal numbers to the hundredths place to solve a real world problem.
Teachers need to have an understanding of the relationship between place value and the various operations students may use to compute the decimal numbers.
Students need place value understanding and the role that this plays in decimal computation.
Students will demonstrate strategies for solving the problems and be able to determine the efficiency of various strategies for computing decimal numbers. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.B.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
