Summary

Students will apply the scientific method to actual events in the development of the cell theory. They will do this by researching using their books and they display their knowledge visually in a poster.

Background for Teachers

Objective: The purpose of this project is for students to learn the major tenants of the cell theory. They will also learn how a theory develops and how it is influenced by technology. Students will apply the scientific method to actual events in the development of the cell theory. They will do this by researching using their books and they display their knowledge visually in a poster.


Student Prior Knowledge

Students need no prior knowledge of cells. This is a good introductory activity to the Cell theory and the nature of science.


Instructional Procedures

  1. Obtain needed supplies.
  2. Page numbers listed on student sheet are for Prentice Hall BIOLOGY book. You may need to find the similar sections in your textbook and change the page numbers
  3. Give students the student sheet and allow them to complete the activity.
  4. You will probably want to go through the examples with the students.
