Background For Teachers:
Objective: The purpose of this project is for students to learn the different cell organelles which function in a cell and the purpose of each. They will also learn about the cell theory and the technological advances which allowed for its development. Students will learn these things by creating catalogs for cell organelles. This is a group research project.

Duration: 2-4 class periods.

Student Prior Knowledge:
Students need no prior knowledge of cells. This is a good introductory activity to cell organelles and Cell Theory.

Instructional Procedures:

  1. Obtain needed supplies.
  2. Form students into groups of 4 and pass out student directions and grading rubric
  3. Explain project to students.
  4. Allow 2-4 class periods for students to work in their groups on completing this project. Time is dependent on the quality you demand from your students.
  5. This project works well with the mobile Intel lab if it is available to your school. Otherwise you will need to schedule computer lab time for the students to research and type.
  6. You may have other groups grade each other or choose to grade them yourself.

Assessment Plan:
The grading rubric is attached and should be handed out to each group for their use.
