Summary:
Students will conduct a lab with salt and ice to understand why ice and snow melt as a result of salt added.

Summarize the quantitative and qualitative effects of colligative properties on a solution when a solute is added.

Materials:

  • student sheet (attached)
  • 150 mL beaker
  • sodium chloride (fine)
  • sodium chloride (coarse)
  • ice
  • plastic beaker
  • 2 plastic test tubes
  • tap water
  • thermometer
  • graduated cylinder
