Web Sites

  • Perpetual Preschool
    Ideas for homemade instruments
  • Perpetual Preschool
This has some songs for preschoolers, but does not apply as well as other sites that are attached.
  • Head Start
This has some good ideas for songs. You can print these and give them to the class before they create their own.
  • Songs for Teaching
This site also has many great ideas for making up words to familiar tunes.
  • Family Corner
This has some additional ideas for homemade instruments
  • Friends Across America
This includes pictures that can be colored and used as visual aids. Ex: You could write slow under the turtle picture, color it, and have the children sing slow when this picure is held up.

Background For Teachers:
You should know what kinds of instruments children can make in a DAP setting. Look at the websites beforehand and decide what examples you want to use. Create examples for the students to see.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
After this class students will understand the importance of creating a caring community of learners.(DAP) They will also have the needed visuals to use music as a way to create this needed environment.

Instructional Procedures:
Power point presentation. The students will take notes. Then they will make a visual aid (such as a mouse for quiet singing or a lion for loud singing)or an instrument to create a caring community in the classroom. Finally they will create a song using a familiar tune and new words to help the preschool children work together as a class.

Assessment Plan:
The students will not only turn in their instruments for a grade, but will also perform their songs in front of the class.
