Background for Teachers

The students will use what's been modeled and practiced with the teacher, and extend it to a book on their own. Each student or team will read a book on relationships and evaluate it in the same manner as My Rotten, Red-Headed, Older Brother. Students will identify key characteristics of relationships and realize the point where things change and new or different behaviors are exhibited. Thoughts about the relationship will be recorded using a "Before" and "After" organizer.

Intended Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate a positive learning attitude.
3. Demonstrate responsible emotional and cognitive behaviors.
5. Understand and use basic concepts and skills.

Journal writing: What makes your family work well together? What kind of relationship do you have? What kinds of things do you like that your family does? What don’t you like?

Family Connections

Assessment Plan

Monitor reading and watch for recorded thoughts about relationships. Do students make relevant comments about the story to describe characteristics of relationships? Do they see the changes in behavior?
