Background For Teachers:
Prior to this activity, student should have been instructed in simple listening skills.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

This lesson has three desired outcomes:

  • First, the student will understand that the Internet has a huge library of books that can be accessed.
  • Second, the student will be able to independently click the arrows to 'turn the pages'.
  • Third, the student will be able to retell a story, using the pictures from an Internet book and his/her own words.

Instructional Procedures:

The student(s) will be given an introduction to the Internet.

The student(s) will be given opportunities to 'navigate' the Internet (using the mouse to point and click, to click on hot links and pictures, etc.).

The students will gather around the computer and/or projection device.

The students will observe and understand simple basic Internet navigating (point and click), as the teacher directs story time from the Internet.

The teacher will bring up Disney's Amazing Book Factory which will be used as the primary book source for story telling.

The teacher will show the students the book factory and explain that it is like a library.

The students will listen to the teacher tell a story from one of the books in the Disney collection, while looking at the pictures on the monitor/screen.

The students will be given a chance to ask questions about what they have heard and seen during the story time.

Each student will be given a chance to retell the story, using the the same visuals on the computer as the teacher used.

Each student will be aided as needed and provided the encouragement to succeed as best as she/he can.
