Background for Teachers

Attachments

Teachers will need to place micro caches before beginning the lesson and review plant identification.

Student Prior Knowledge

Students need to research tree information. They need to have some basic information on shape, leaf shape, coloration, and bark characteristics.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Identify common plants in Utah. Use a simple classification system to classify unfamiliar trees.

Instructional Procedures

You will be locating and describing deciduous trees. Your first waypoint is n 40 45 759 w 111 50 556. After locating the tree record information about its shape, leaf shape, coloration, and bark. This information will be used once you return to the class room to identify the tree. After observing the tree, look around for the micro cache that gives you the next way point. There is a clue for each tree to help you find the micro cache.
