Summary:
This lesson plan is to help students learn the difference between natural and synthetic fibers.

FACS 6th Grade
Strand 4 Standard 1

Fiber game cards

The information for this lesson plan is on the Utah Agriculture in the Classroom website. When you get to the website go to Teacher Resources; Secondary Teachers; Applied Technology; Technology,Life,and Careers; Clothes on the Grow. The Natural and Synthetic handouts are the overheads from this lesson.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to correctly match natural and synthetic fibers.

Instructional Procedures:
Give students the natural and synthetic fibers papers. Divide the class into 5 groups. Assign each group one of the 5 paragraphs to read. Then have them do a Tea Party. Have them get into groups and explain what they read to 4-6 other students. Have them continue to do this until they have had all 5 paragraphs explained to them.
Hand out the fiber game cards. Have the students work as a group to put the fibers into the correct categories. Check student work.
