Summary

Students will use the elements and principles of design learned in this unit to design a room inside of a shoe box.


Materials

Hot glue guns, glue sticks, fabric scraps, colored construction or scrapbook paper, pom-poms, ribbon, Popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, jewels, pony beads, colored pencils, crayons, rulers, scissors, etc.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to apply their understanding of the elements and principles of interior design to create their own unique room design.


Instructional Procedures

Each student will need a shoe box brought from home. If a shoe box in unavailable, they may use any shallow type of box. This project is meant to be a final assessment of the interior design unit. The students will use the elements and principles of design to create their own unique room design.

  1. Have all supplies set out and ready for students to use. Supplies might include: hot glue guns, glue sticks, fabric scraps, colored construction or scrapbook paper, pom-poms, ribbon, Popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, jewels, pony beads, colored pencils, crayons, rulers, scissors, etc.

  2. Allow students time to create their shoe box room using the supplies listed above. This project can be completed in 1-2 class periods.

Assessment Plan

Use the attached grading sheet to assess how well the elements and principles of design were used in each of the shoe box rooms.
