Summary

This introductory activity gives students an opportunity to survey other students and adults on their views of the Big Bang theory. It is a pre-reading or "frontloading" activity to build interest and identify what students know about the theory.


Materials


Background for Teachers

Time Needed: 15-20 minutes for initial assignment, 2-3 days for students to compile data outside of class, 50 minutes for summary activities.


Instructional Procedures

  1. Read the introduction and procedures with students and have them fill in the "you" column on the opinionaire.
  2. Have students interview one other student in the class and record the results. Assign them to complete the survey outside of class.
  3. The teacher may choose to end the activity with a discussion of what scientists think and end the activity here or…
  4. To compile the summary data, ask students to write their results on the board and tally them.
