Summary
Students will use a reading selection to compare the solar system to a neighborhood and do some writing, drawing and make comparisons to reinforce their knowledge about the rocky planets, gas giants and amount of matter in the solar system.
Materials
Instructional Procedures
- The reading selection is fairly long and may contain vocabulary the students are unfamiliar with. There are a variety of reading strategies that could be used to help students read it. The teacher may choose to do a "think aloud" or reciprocal reading strategy. The students may be encouraged to talk to the text through post-it notes or do a K-W-L chart to aid understanding.
- A "stop and write" is shown on the worksheet.
- After the reading, ask students to complete the analysis section.
