Mate Selection and Engagement

2 class periods that run 70 minutes each.


Students will learn about how to choose a mate and what they want in a future mate. They will learn the purpose of engagement and how to plan a wedding.

Background For Teachers:
Teachers need to know the importance of mate selection and engagement in a relationship. They need to go over the lesson so they have a clear image of what to present to the students. If they add stories it will make the lesson more enjoyable for the students as well.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students will understand the importance of mate selection and the importance of an engagement period.

Instructional Procedures:
The students will learn what is important to them when selecting a mate. Qualities in a mate are important. Talk about reasons why people get married and marital risks. They will also learn the importance of engagement and how to plan for a wedding.


Web Sites

Have the students find the cost of a wedding. Assign each students something to find. The next day go over what they have found and add up the cost for their wedding.
