3. Light sources handout.
4. Huntington floor plan assignment.
5. Lighting power point presentation.
6. Lighting fixture booklets like jcpenney catalogs, etc. showing different types of lighting fixtures that can be cut out and used in the assignment.
Be familiar with the information in the Lighting lecture notes and lighting fixtures lecture notes and in the lighting power point presentation.
None.
Students will be able to use their lighting knowledge to create lighting in a home plan.
1. Discuss with students that regardless of the amount of time and money invested in decorating a home, if the lighting is inadequate or poorly organized, the decor will not be as effective as it will be with well-planned lighting. Plans for lighting should take place during the design stage when window types and placement - along with electrical design are being planned.
2. Show the power point presentation on lighting. Not all the information from the notes is on the slide show, so you will want to use both to get all the information to the students that you want to give them. While students are listening to the lecture, have them complete the Light Sources worksheet.
3. After the slide show, explain to the students that they will now complete a lighting plan of their own. Hand out a Huntington house plan to each student, they will also need a white piece of paper. Now that they have seen many types of lighting fixtures, they are going to create a lighting plan for this home. On the front of the Huntington handout, they are going to draw on the floor plan the architectural symbols for the lighting fixtures they are going to use on the plan and where they are going to use them. They need to label each fixture with a number. On the back of the assignment (on their white paper) they are going to show what type of fixtures these look like. They will take the catalogs, or pictures from magazines, and cut out pictures of fixtures that they want to use in their house plan. Then they will glue them on their paper, and number them corresponding to where they were on the house plan on the front of the worksheet. I also let students go online and use some of the websites I have listed to get a specific fixture they want to use. This is a fun assignment with a lot of creativity. You could use different house plans, and different ideas and still get a great effect!
