Summary

Students will begin to learn how to use the rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler to make quilt blocks. In this class the students will make a 4-patch quilt block. Students will also write a paper on their first memories of a quilt.


Materials

Rotary cutters, cutting mats, rulers of various sizes, samples of 4-patch block, quilts with 4-patch blocks, 1/4" presser foot, iron, ironing board.


Background for Teachers

Teacher needs to know how to use a rotary cutter and mat to make a quilt block. Teacher also needs to know how to make a 4-patch block.


Student Prior Knowledge

No prior knowlegde is needed.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will make a 4-patch block. They will understand how to sew a 1/4" seam. Students will also write a paper on their first memories of a quilt.

Assessment Plan

Students will be evaluated on the accuracy of the 6" finished 4-patch block.
