    Twitter is probably best described as a micro-blogging tool. It allows you to create posts of 140 characters or less. You can follow others’ "Tweets" and be followed, creating a personal learning network.

    Kelly learns something new every day from the people he is following. He has a network of over 120 people around the state.

They are opening up the festival to students outside of the District.

AECT (Association for Educational Communications and Technology) Conference - Cory Little

    • 2007 Conference was in October - There were over 500 professional sessions
    • Next year's convention will be held in Orlando, Florida November 4th - 9th, 2008

UEN Updates

UEN-TV - Nate Southerland

    • MHz Worldview
      • Currently UEN-TV is broadcasting Annenberg Media on 9.2. Annenberg programs are available through streaming on the Internet, so UEN is investigating other programming options.
      • UEN has identified a new digital broadcast service called "Worldview".
      • Worldview programming is designed to bring a broader perspective of the world to American audiences. World News from Russia, France, Taiwan, India, and Germany provide the main programming, with additional programs on Foreign Affairs, International Mysteries, World Music, Sports, and Foreign Films.
      • All programs are English accessible (in English or subtitled)
      • UEN is gathering community input over the next three months.
    • Digital TV
      • The FCC calls for all television stations to abandon their analog transmitters by Feb. 17, 2009.

      A new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. Grades PreK - 3

USOE Updates - Rick and Kathy

    • Qwest Mini Grant
    • NetDay Speak-up
      Speak Up, a national online research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints about key educational issues. Each year, findings are summarized and shared with national and state policy makers. Participating schools and districts can access their data online, free-of-charge.

UTIPS Updates - Julie Quinn

    • Preparing for an item pool updates - it should go live over the Winter holidays
      • Secondary Math realignment, new Algebra II items, and some items to fill gaps
      • There may have an intermediate update - when the Elem Math items are ready
    • Constructed Response questions are being created for Science
    • Assessment is hiring a database programmer and subcontracting with a Cold Fusion expert.
