Description
This course is designed for pre-professional students and workers in health related fields. Helps students read and understand the language of medical terminology and stresses terminology usage and accuracy. Elements, abbreviations, spelling, pronunciation, and logic of medical terminology will be introduced.
Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion students will be able to:

  1. Build medical words from Greek and Latin prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and by combining forms through using the system introduced in the programmed learning approach in the Canvas course.
  2. Recognize medical words from the Greek and Latin parts and write their medical definition.
  3. Spell medical words correctly.
  4. Recognize common medical abbreviations and symbols and describe their meaning and uses.
  5. Pronounce medical words correctly.

 

Course Modules:

Medical Terminology courses begin with an overview of medical word building and then cover key word roots, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes for each of the 11 organ systems of the body.
