Students will identify and/or demonstrate how to maintain a healthy environment for young children.
Standard 1
Identify and/or demonstrate how to maintain a secure and healthy environment for young children.
 
  • Child Care-SLCC FHS 2600 Internet Ch.15(Health, Safety)
    This is an overview of the Salt Lake Community College Internet Course FHS 2600 Introduction to Early Childhood Education Chapter 15 and covers:
    • Health Education
    • Nutrition Education
    • Safety Education
  • Environment Review and Test
    This is a review of the physical classroom environment for a preschool, first-aid procedures, and positive guidance techniques. Positive guidance techniques include ways to guide small children, such as redirection, time out, assertive discipline, and behavior modification. A test will be given following the review. The students will have already learned the information in periods previous to this one.
  • First-aid and Emergencies
    This lesson assesses how much the students know concerning first-aid and then continues on, giving them real life examples to figure out what to do in emergency situations. They will present their findings to the class. The lesson concludes with a post-test to see how much they learned.
  • Health & Safety
    Lesson on health in the child care, including snacks. Also includes safety.
  • Health and Safety
    This lesson teaches the colors used in a preschool room, the setup, the safety procedures, as well as the immunizations required for a preschool. Students engage in small activities such as class discusion,note taking and visiting a childcare lab.
  • Nutritional Needs
    This lesson teaches the students about the nutritional needs of children, kitchen safety, and important aspects of snacks. The students will rotate through six different stations to complete the activities.
