Strand 7
Students will design products using interior decor fabrication.
Standard 2
Design and fabricate bedding and pillows. (e.g. quilts, comforters, pillow shams, bed skirts, throw pillows, etc.)
 
  • Color selection for a quilt
    Color choice is one of the most critical factors in determining a successful quilt. Students will learn to use the color wheel in selecting fabric colors for a quilt.
  • Fabric Selection for Quilts
    Students will review the parts of fabric, good fabric selection for a quilt, and participate in a lab to determine a good fabric for quilts.
  • How to care for a finished quilt
    Students will learn how to care of a quilt. Students will work in pairs to create a report and will present it to the class. This information is found on the Internet.
  • Introduction to Beginning Quilting
    This lesson plan is designed for a beginning quilter. We will describe what a quilt is, how important accuracy is in quilting, and the students will be introduced to several beginning quilt blocks.
  • Introduction to Machine Piecing
    Students will begin to learn how to use the rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler to make quilt blocks. In this class the students will make a 4-patch quilt block. Students will also write a paper on their first memories of a quilt.
  • Rotary Cutting 101
    Students will learn how to safely use a rotary cutter, mat, and ruler. They will learn the parts of the fabric. Students will also begin to understand the difference between a finished block and a cut block.
  • Tool Time - Quilting
    Students will learn what tools and equipment they need to use for successful quilt making. Each student will learn how to use these items. Student will also know and understand the terms he/she needs to know to be successful in making a quilt.
  • Trip to the Quilt Shop
    Students and teacher will go on a field trip to a local quilt shop. The teacher will determine the destination, make arrangements for the field trip, and collect all necessary paper work for students to leave school. Local quilt shops can be found in the yellow pages.
