Students will understand basic geometry and measurement concepts as well as collect and organize data.
Objective 1
Identify and create simple geometric shapes and describe simple spatial relationships.

  • Fairy Tale Maps
    Students will begin to understand the concept of maps by describing the path that Little Red Riding Hood took on the way to Grandma's house.
  • Maps and Me
    Students will complete several classroom activities to improve basic map skills.
  • Weather Walks
    Students will learn about weather by taking walks in various types conditions: sunny, rainy, windy and snowy.

  • Shape Hunt
    Students have opportunities to recognize, describe, build, and explore shapes in many different contexts. This investigation uses tangrams, or pattern blocks, in many of the activities. If these resources are unavailable, print out sets of tangrams from the Girl Tech website. Teachers may choose to add a circular object to students' tangram sets.
