  • Mountain Man Rendezvous
The mountain man rendezvous were unique occurances, associated with fur trappers, where many cultures joined in the intermountain west from 1825 to 1840 and made exchanges of goods, services and skills that influenced all who participated. These events also had great impact on westward expansion of the United States.

  • Which Way Did They Go?
Throughout history, explorers have searched for the quickest, easiest, and most lucrative routes between two locations. In what is now the U.S. state of Arizona, Spanish explorers sought the “Seven Cities of Cibola,” American explorers sought the best stagecoach and railroad routes, and Mormons sought new locations for settlement in the White Mountains. This lesson will delve into how Arizona topography has influenced exploration. The lesson could serve as a good model for application to more general themes in U.S. history and could be adapted to Utah studies as well.
