  • 2nd Grade - Act. 11: Character Sketch
    This lesson takes a closer look at character, tapping into what a character thinks, says, feels, does, and tries, as well as his or her strengths and weaknesses. Students will use what they read to analyze the character in the story.
  • 2nd Grade - Act. 12: Guess My Character
    Students will create thought bubbles for either the brother or the sister from Patricia Polacco's story "My Rotten, Red-Headed, Older Brother".
  • 2nd Grade - Act. 15: Counting Around the World
    After reading books about Mexico, Tanzania, and Japan, students will complete a venn diagram to compare and contrast each.
  • 2nd Grade - Act. 18: Our Class & the Magic Pot
    After reading Lily Toy Hong's story "Two of Everything", students will create a page in a class "Doubling" book.
  • Community Culture Trunk
    Students will pack their own "culture trunk" as they learn more about the cultural contributions found in their community.
  • Cultural Museum
    These activities will provide students an opportunity to reflect their culture through art.
  • Grandma Thinks It's Cake Baking Weather
    This activity uses Patricia Polacco's book "Thunder Cake" to help students understand how daily life has changed over the past 150 years.
  • Mystery Rocks
    This lesson is designed to get students thinking about the uses of rocks in the world around them.
  • The Cinderella Projects
    The use of multicultural versions of the story Cinderella helps students make comparisons and observations.
  • Where do you live?
    Activities and a game help students compare rural, suburban, and urban communities.
