(Phonics and Spelling): Students use phonics and other strategies to decode and spell unfamiliar words while reading and writing.
Objective 2
Use knowledge of structural analysis to decode words.
 
  • Between the Lions: Games
    Includes a collection of games to review phonics and vocabulary words.
  • Between the Lions: Videos
    This site includes a collection of phonic songs including: Hung up on H, Sven Said, W Trouble, etc. Songs can be played in QuickTime or RealPlayer. Some songs include video clips. All songs include the words.
  • Bossy R Jeopardy
    Prepare this jeopardy game to practice bossy 'r' words with your students.
  • Clifford's Interactive Storybooks
    Contains several storybooks starring Clifford, the Big Red Dog. Each line of the book can be read to students. Students have the opportunity to select a word for several sentences.
  • Clifford's Make a Word
    Students select vowels to make words.
  • Contraction Match
    Students play memory match with contractions to reveal an animated picture.
  • Drag and Drop
    Student drags a picture to the correct matching word. Sight word recognition
  • Fly By Contractions
    Click on the plane with the two words that make up the given contraction. Click GO for a new word.
  • Harcourt School 1st Grade Spelling Activities
    This site contains a variety of spelling activities for each unit of the Harcourt Brace Spelling program. Teachers can look at the words in these units to discover any common patterns or similarities with school's spelling program. (Each unit has a spelling check where students select the correctly spelled word from a list of words and a Word Builder where students unscramble the letters to make a word that was orally given to students.)
  • Little Animals' Activity Center
    Students identify words ending or beginning with the same letter or words that rhyme.
  • Rhymes With Digby
    Student is read the word he/she is trying to rhyme with. He/She chooses the rhyming word and Digby digs down to retrieve the word. The student is then read the rhyming words.
  • Spelling Activities
    This site offers several choices in varying difficulty. Activites include matching beginning sound, missing letters, missing vowels, plurals, and blends.
  • Word Blender Game
    Help Wordblender by choosing the beginning and ending sounds for each word.
  • Word Maker
    Use word families to make words.
  • Word Sort
    Sort words according to chunks.
  • Words and Pictures
    This site contains several different modules emphasizing graphophonic cues including consonant-vowel-consonant words, consonant clusters, and long vowel sounds. Modules contain listening activities, interactive games, and writing activities.
