(Comprehension): Students understand, interpret, and analyze narrative and informational grade level text.
 
  • A Neighborhood Story
    Students sequence illustrations and create a neighborhood story.
  • A Party Invitation
    Read the story and complete the interactive activites to finish the story.
  • Annie's Rhyme Time
    Everyday a new riddle is provided. Riddles must be answered with a two-word rhyme. Riddles are categorized as easy, medium, and hard.
  • Berenstain Bears
    This site contains a collection of activities based on the Berenstain Bears stories. Visit the Barn Theater to view clips of stories or go to the post office to e-mail the characters in the stories.
  • Between the Lions: Stories
    This site includes a collection stories from PBS's Between the Lions series. Each story is followed by a game.
  • Education Place Graphic Organizers
    This is a collection of unique graphic organizers to print. Includes a Spanish version of the organizers.
  • Folklore, Myth and Legend
    This is a collection of folktales, myths and legends. Teachers should determine the age appropriateness of the stories.
  • I'm Reading
    These is a Starfall site which provides different reading activities in different genres. Students could read plays, comics, folk tales, greek myths, and chinese fables.
  • Into the Book: Student Area
    Although students need to use a key to enter this site it doesn't take long to get started. After the key is entered students can choose one of the 8 reading strategies to learn about and then practice by completing the online student interactives.
  • Into the Book: Teacher Area
    Into the Book is a rich resource for teaching and learning reading comprehension in grades K-4. Organized around eight key strategies, the website offers videos and interactive activities for students while providing short PD videos, lesson plans, and other resources for teachers.
  • Junie B. Jones Website
    An entire website featuring Junie B. There are coloring pages, a letter from Junie B, activity sheets to print out based on the books, and a Junie B. quiz.
  • Kid's Corner
    This site contains a collection of stories from Beatrix Potter. Additional stories are also available from this site.
  • Mama Lisa's World
    This site contains children's songs and rhymes from many nations.
  • Mister Roger's Picture Picture Tour
    Select "Picture Picture Tour" from the main screen. This section includes six "How to" tours. Students watch videos describing how to create several objects (a shoe, crayons, a wagon, etc.) Students can then read step-by-step instructions. An online activity for each video has students use pictures from the video to put the steps into the right order.
  • Poetry for Kids - The Funny Forty
    The collection of 40 poems by Kenn Nesbitt. The site also links to an interview with Mr. Nesbitt and additional poetry and resources. Lessons for writing funny poetry.
  • Rebus Rhymes
    Students read familiar poems with images.
  • Stories Online
    On this site well-known and intersting stories are read by familiar actors and actresses.
  • The Day Jimmy's Boa Taught Cause and Effect
    Students will participate in class discussions about cause and effect during oral reading; draw pictures illustrating cause-and-effect examples from texts; illustrate examples of cause and effect; write their own examples of cause and effect; create their own cause-and-effect book and book cover.
