Reading: Informational Text Standard 7
Integrate information presented in different media or formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively) as well as in words to develop a coherent understanding of a topic or issue.

  • Current Events
Current events are published monthly. The site includes a story of the event, a word game (usually a printable worksheet), a short quiz, and a forum for students to respond to the event. The teacher's guide provides ideas for using it in the class, background information, as well as additional sites for reinforcement.
  • Self-Assessment Rubric - Close Reading of Informational Text
This self-assessment reading rubric will help Grade 6 students assess their reading of informational text.
  • Slave Narratives: Constructing U.S. History Through Analyzing Primary Sources
In these activities, students research narratives from the Federal Writers' Project and describe the lives of former African slaves in the U.S. - both before and after emancipation.
