By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.

    A terrific resource for teachers/media specialists teaching about specific illustrators and their work.
  • Current Events
    Current events are published monthly. The site includes a story of the event, a word game (usually a printable worksheet), a short quiz, and a forum for students to respond to the event. The teacher's guide provides ideas for using it in the class, background information, as well as additional sites for reinforcement.
  • Disease Detective
    You've arrived at a hospital near a national park where all but two members of two families fell ill while camping. Interview all eight family members to see how they became infected or not. What caused the illness?
  • Mama Lisa's World
    This site contains children's songs and rhymes from many nations.
  • The Write Source
    This site contains a collection of resources from a group of teachers who publish handbooks on writing for elementary and secondary students. The site includes grade level writing process strategies, model writing samples, and ideas for writing.
  • Time for Kids
    A student version of this popular news magazine. Includes current news articles, homework tips, games, surveys and polls, and links to other magazines.
