Course Description

ADVANCED INTERIOR DESIGN - (.5-1.0 credit) This course provides students the opportunity to develop advanced skills in applying the elements and principles of design to interiors. Portfolio projects are integrated throughout the course to provide applications as the students continue their study of floor plans, color schemes, lighting, textures, fabrics, and furniture design and style. Appropriate computer design programs are used in this course. The students will explore the various career opportunities related to interior design. A coordinated project that allows applications of interior design skills in a residential, commercial, or school setting may be a component of this course. FCCLA may be an integral part of this course.

Core Standards of the Course

Standard 01
Students will review and apply architectural history and identify selected architectural features and styles. National Standards 11.5.3, 11.5.4

Standard 02
Students will select and apply furniture styles. National Standard 11.5.1

Standard 03
Students will identify quality furniture. National Standard 11.3.1

Standard 04
Students will apply the design and function of interior space. National Standards 11.4.1

Standard 05
Students will select apply surface treatments and backgrounds to interior used in interior design. National Standards 11.3.1, 16.2.2, 16.4.2

Standard 06
Students will apply lighting types to meet various lighting functions and needs. National Standard 11.3.1
