Course Description
The following standards are core requirements for ALL secondary classes taught in computer labs. [Word Processing, Information Processing, Internet, Computers in Business, Desktop Publishing, Administrative Procedures, Advanced Computer Applications, Multimedia, Occupational Computer Programming, Networking, etc.]


Core Standards of the Course

Standard 1

The student will continue to improve keyboarding competency/skill.


Objective 1
Use correct entry level keyboarding techniques --excellent, fair, or poor.

INDICATORS - CORRECT KEYBOARDING TECHNIQUES

  • Feet placed for balance.
  • Center body to the "h" key with elbows at sides.
  • Sit up straight.
  • Curve fingers over the home keys.
  • Keep wrists off the keyboard.
  • Keep eyes on printed copy.
  • Key by touch.

RATING LEVELS

Mastery  - The student knows the keys and keys by touch.
Near Mastery  - With more practice, the student will key by touch.
Partial Mastery - The student looks at the keys most of the time.
Minimal Mastery  - The student is dependent on looking at the keys.


Objective 2
Show improvement in exit level keyboarding technique.

Objective 3
Demonstrate a speed increase of 4 to 8 words per minute.

If technique is evaluated as excellent keyboarding improvement emphasis should be placed on increasing words per minute and accuracy .

Objective 4
Demonstrate a keyboarding accuracy level of no more than 2 errors per minute.

Objective 5
Show an improvement in the exit level words per minute at appropriate error limits.
