Course Description
Communications Technology will teach students to create, store, analyze, manipulate, record, and transmit information through four major areas:

  1. Drafting and design.
  2. Electronic communications.
  3. Audio visual/multi-media communications.
  4. Graphic communications.

Students will explore the impacts of communication technology on our society; and they will explore related careers.


Core Standards of the Course

Standard 1
STUDENTS WILL INVESTIGATE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY, WILL EXPLORE THE IMPACT OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ON OUR SOCIATY, WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY A VARIETY OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES, AND WILL LEARN AND USE SAFETY PRACTICES.

Objective 1-1
The students will identify occupations related to the communication industry.

Objective 1-2
Student will state the differences between past and present methods of communications.

Objective 1-3
Students will identify a variety of systems, methods, and materials used for building communication technology.

Objective 1-4
Students will learn and use safe work habits and techniques.

Standard 2
STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND THE DESIGN PROCESS.

Objective 2-1
Students will know the steps of the design process.

Objective 2-2
Students will understand how to identify and classify a problem.

Objective 2-3
Students will know the steps of researching a design problem.

Objective 2-4
Students will solve a design-based problem.

Standard 3
STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND BASIC DRAFTING CONCEPTS AND SYSTEMS.

Objective 3-1
Students will be able to identify drafting systems.

Objective 3-2
Students will understand and use drafting techniques. For Example:

  • Lines
  • Letters
  • Symbols

Objective 3-3
Students will understand and use different types of drawings. For Example:

  • Isometric
  • Geometric Communications
  • Orthographic
  • Schematic

Objective 3-4
Students will sketch a part or idea.

Objective 3-5
Students will be able to interpret a drawing or schematic.

Standard 4
STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE HOW INFORMATION IS COMMUNICATED ELECTRONICALLY.

Objective 4-1
Students will understand, identify, and use electronically communicate information.

Objective 4-2
Student will understand the value and credibility issues of information.

Objective 4-3
Students will be able to send, receive, and confirm electronic communication.

Objective 4-4
Student will understand the expectable use policies of the school.

Standard 5
STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE HOW AUDIO VISUAL/MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION ARE MADE AND USED.

Objective 5-1
Students will understand the influence of technology on audio/visual multimedia presentations.

Objective 5-2
Students will understand how to use multimedia programs.

Objective 5-3
Students will know related vocabulary.

Objective 5-4
Students will produce a multimedia presentation. For Example:
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Presentations

Standard 6
STUDENTS WILL IDENTIFY AND DEMONSTRATE GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION.

Objective 6-1
Students will understand basic vocabulary of graphics.

Objective 6-2
Students will identify where graphics are used in industry.

Objective 6-3
Students will produce a graphics product. For Example:

  • Printing
  • Silk-screening
  • Engraving
